LONG STORY SHORT

I designed a fintech app that makes stablecoin-powered savings feel simple and accessible to Gen Z

Brookwell was designed in collaboration with Blockchain @ Berkeley.

01

Concept

Reframed account abstraction as a design constraint: make the blockchain completely invisible to the end user.

02

Interaction Design

Designed onboarding, spending, and recovery flows for two personas sharing one wallet (a parent and a teen).

03

Visual Design

Built a full component library and color system in Figma, from scratch, in under 48 hours.

PROBLEM

A gap exists between modern financing and crypto

Gen Z consumers are comfortable navigating digital finance, but they're still stuck with traditional banking's low returns. Many are curious about crypto, yet DeFi's complexity and volatility keep them from actually using it. As a result, there's no simple, reliable way for them to earn modern financial yield on the money they spend every day.

HOW MIGHT WE

How might we help Gen Z earn yield on their money through stablecoins while preserving the safety of a traditional banking experience?

DESIGN PROCESS

We wanted to prioritize user experience

Elements

Trust

The platform should feel as trustworthy as any other banking platform.

Usability

The platform should be safe: people needed to know where their money is at all times.

Under the Hood

Stablecoins were the core of the platform, but they shouldn't feel like that: it was about striking a balance.

We studied the UI of other successful fintech apps, indexing on those that felt particularly intuitive and trustworthy. We learned that simple UIs with strong hierarchies and clear breakdowns of financial topics performed the best.

WALKTHROUGH

We prioritized a simple, familiar, and clean interface.

WALKTHROUGH

Onboarding

New users get a value-prop primer before creating an account — email or social sign-up, identity verification, and a disclosure step, ending in a ready-to-use dashboard in under a minute.

9:41

Home Page

Once onboarded, users land on a snapshot of their finances (balance, 30-day trend, and quick actions) with contextual prompts guiding new users toward funding their account before diving into cards or transfers.

Card Management

Users create virtual cards from a blank state, customize label, color, and spending restrictions, then manage the card’s transactions and details from a dedicated dashboard.

Account Management

Users manage identity, security, and linked accounts from a single hub. This is built to handle both traditional banking needs and crypto-specific controls (wallet permissions, network preferences) in one consistent place.

Clicking into a specific account reveals savings goals and transactions. Each transaction notes the purchase, location, and time.

Spend Management

Users track spending against a savings goal and see where their money is going by category, with a dark-mode dashboard that surfaces balance, progress, and a breakdown of top spending areas at a glance.

After a transaction, users can track their spending. They can see overall spending in a minimized window. Clicking into this, reveals a pie chart of their spending, split by category. Clicking on a specific category reveals the split per section.

REFLECTION

What I learned

Design changes when it becomes real

Brookwell was my first chance to design an app while seeing it developed alongside us. Watching screens become a working product taught me to think beyond individual Figma frames and consider the entire experience.

Every detail becomes a decision.

Starting from the ground up made me more intentional about color, spacing, typography, and even corner radius. It was challenging, and seeing Brookwell go live made it incredibly fulfilling. Huge thanks to Tvisha for leading the team with such a clear vision. I’m honored to have contributed.
